Why We're Shifting a Wellness Client's Focus From One Target Audience to Two

A single audience profile can only take a brand so far. Here's how we identified a second high-value segment, and what it took to pursue both without losing either.

One audience can only take a brand so far.

When we began working with this wellness technology client, their marketing was focused on people seeking support for chronic health concerns. This audience remains highly valuable, loyal, and commercially important, so our goal was never to replace them.

Instead, we identified a second growth opportunity.

Through social media, website, and content performance data, we discovered an emerging audience already engaging with the brand: high-performers interested in recovery, longevity, energy, and optimisation. Unlike the original audience, they weren't looking to solve a problem. They were looking to enhance performance and wellbeing as part of their lifestyle.

While the product appealed to both groups, the positioning did not.

To address this, we evolved the strategy rather than pivoting it. We introduced content pillars that could serve both audiences simultaneously:

  • Educational and science-led content relevant to everyone
  • Lifestyle, recovery, and performance content for high-performers
  • Testimonial and condition-focused content for the original audience

Paid media allowed us to separate messaging further, delivering tailored creative, copy, and landing page experiences to each audience while maintaining a consistent brand identity.

We also reviewed website messaging, replacing some clinical language with more neutral, performance-focused terminology to broaden appeal without alienating existing customers.

Why It Matters

Expanding beyond a single audience creates new growth opportunities. The high-performer market is often more engaged, less price-sensitive, and more likely to share recommendations within their networks.

The key lesson is that audience evolution should feel deliberate, not reactive. The strongest brands don't abandon the audience that got them here. They build a strategy capable of serving both where they started and where they're going.
